A modern version of a classic Tale published in German and English by Büchergilde Guthenberg in Germany: Bartleby, the Scrivener, by Herman Melville.
Herman Melville's “Tale of Wall Street” - with the proverbial phrase “I would prefer not to” - was first published in 1853, after the publication of his novel Moby Dick. The story centers on Bartleby, an employee of a New York law firm, who initially performs the typing and copying tasks assigned to him with diligence and dedication, but suddenly no longer wants to “join in”. He becomes increasingly taciturn, refuses to do the office work and leaves his employer confused. Bartleby finally refuses to accept life itself ...
